Parapet Inspection Checklist for NYC Building Owners

Use this checklist to stay organized and ensure your building meets NYC Local Law 126 requirements every year.

Before the Inspection

• ☐ Schedule inspection (September–October is ideal)
• ☐ Confirm roof access and parapet accessibility for inspector
• ☐ Gather previous year's report for comparison
• ☐ Note any visible issues observed since last inspection
• ☐ Ensure building address and owner info are current

During the Inspection

• ☐ Ensure inspector has safe access to all parapets
• ☐ Allow time for full exterior walk-around
• ☐ Be available for questions about building history
• ☐ Ask about any concerns found during the inspection

After the Inspection

• ☐ Receive written report with photographs
• ☐ Review findings and recommendations
• ☐ If unsafe condition: notify DOB within 24 hours
• ☐ If repairs recommended: schedule contractor
• ☐ File report in building records (retain for 6+ years)

Annual Compliance Calendar

• ☐ Inspection scheduled by October
• ☐ Inspection completed by November
• ☐ Report filed in building records by December 31
